Shepherds
Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep” (John 10:11). Jesus, the Good Shepherd, saw that the people of this world are like sheep going astray: “When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things” (Mark 6:34). He called men to help him serve these sheep: “Jesus said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?’ ‘Yes, Lord,’ he said, ‘you know that I love you.’ Jesus said, ‘Feed my lambs.’” (John 21:15). Just as Jesus called men in the past to shepherd over His flock, God is raising up new generations of Bible teachers to spread His message. Each UBF Bible teacher has accepted the calling to “shepherd God’s sheep.” Therefore, we refer to one another as “shepherd” and “shepherdess,” not as a title of status, but as a reminder of the calling we have each accepted and to encourage one another to live accordingly.
